What is Purity?

Purity is living with a clean heart, right motives, and conduct that pleases God.

Why do we need Purity

Purity gives access to God

Hebrews 12:14   ¹⁴ Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord

Purity attracts God

• Purity creates conducive atmosphere for God’s presence

Purity activates the power of God

2 Timothy 2:21   ²¹ If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.

Areas of purity

1. Purity of our hearts

Matthew 5:8   ⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

James 4:8   ⁸ Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

1. Purity of our minds

Philippians 4:8   ⁸ Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable– if anything is excellent or praiseworthy– think about such things

• Purity of our hands

Psalm 24:3-4   ³ Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place?  ⁴ He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false.

Isaiah 1:15-17   ¹⁵ When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood;  ¹⁶ wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong,  ¹⁷ learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.

Proverbs 6:16-19   ¹⁶ There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him:  ¹⁷ haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,  ¹⁸ a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil,  ¹⁹ a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.
