BARRIERS TO DIVINE REST

Introduction

Divine rest is a state of peace, assurance, and confidence in God. However, there are certain barriers that hinder believers from entering into this rest.

Barriers to Divine Rest

1. Disobedience

Disobedience to God is one of the greatest obstacles to experiencing divine rest. When we go against God’s will, we disconnect ourselves from His peace and guidance.

Types of Yokes We Must Get Rid Of

  1. The yoke of sin (Galatians 5:1)
  2. The yoke of malicious talk (Isaiah 58:9)
  3. The yoke of oppression (Isaiah 58:9)
  4. The yoke of pointing fingers (Isaiah 58:9)
  5. The yoke of unequal relationships with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14)

These yokes weigh us down and prevent us from enjoying the freedom and rest that God provides.

2. The Barrier of a Dirty Environment

  • This can refer to both physical and spiritual environments.
  • An unclean environment can hinder spiritual growth and fellowship with God.

3. The Barrier of Brutality

  • Harshness, cruelty, or violence in our actions and attitudes can distance us from God’s peace.
  • God calls us to walk in love and gentleness.

4. Fear of What Lies Ahead

  • Fear of the future can rob us of rest.
  • Instead of trusting God, fear keeps us anxious and unsettled.

5. Lack of Faith and Trust in Christ

  • Without faith, it is impossible to fully rest in God.
  • Trusting in Christ brings assurance, peace, and confidence in every situation.

Conclusion

Divine rest is available to every believer, but it requires:

  • Obedience to God
  • Letting go of harmful yokes
  • Trusting God fully

When we remove these barriers, we position ourselves to experience true rest in Christ
